BROADWAY & BROADWAY SOUTHWEST LAUNCH
JERRY GARCIA'S NEW TIE COLLECTION
LOS ANGELES, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to considerable interest, Jerry Garcia, the lead guitarist and vocalist for the enduring San Francisco rock band the Grateful Dead, has agreed to production of neckwear from his limited edition of artwork. J. Garcia Art In Neckwear will launch on the West Coast at all Broadway and Broadway Southwest stores on July 25.
As a student at the San Francisco Art Institute, Garcia found his interests divided between visual and musical expression. While at the institute, he studied with Wally Hedrick and Elmer Bischoff. Music came to claim his full attention, but he never stopped sketching. His work with visual arts has always been a personal amusement and is now available as a series of signed and numbered limited edition prints and a full collection of neckwear.
Translating Garcia's artwork into ties started a year ago during a showing in a Soho gallery. Irwin Sternberg, president of Stonehenge Ltd. (a leading tie manufacturer) and Libby Wegner, the national sales manager, spotted the great sense of line and the unique beauty of color in the artwork and thought that an unusual neckwear collection could be created. After overcoming Garcia's initial reluctance to make ties, he later agreed and Stonehenge began production of J. Garcia Art In Neckwear.
"We (Stonehenge) contacted the retail market excited about our new venture and the magnitude of positive responses was intense," stated Sternberg. "We have received numerous requests from professionals in a wide range of industries from professional coaches to stockbrokers and we are anticipating a phenomenal launch this summer."
Broadway and Broadway Southwest stores will launch the J. Garcia Art In Neckwear Collection this July in anticipation of August 1992, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the "Summer of Love," Garcia's 50th birthday and the release of his art book, "J. Garcia Paintings, Drawings and Sketches."
A special display and sale of Garcia's limited edition prints provided by The Art Peddler, 415-454-7331, will be held at The Broadway Century City, The Broadway Santa Monica and The Broadway Beverly Center stores during the first weekend of the launch.
