BRITISH AEROSPACE LAUNCHES NEW REGIONAL JETLINER FAMILY

BRITISH AEROSPACE LAUNCHES NEW REGIONAL JETLINER FAMILY
WASHINGTON, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- British Aerospace's contenders for the 70- to 120-seat jet market for the 1990s were unveiled today as the company announced its new Regional Jetliner family -- the RJ70, RJ85, RJ100 and RJ115 -- offering a new Textron Lycoming turbofan, enhanced CAT IIIA avionics, new sculptured interior and operating costs guarantees.
The launch of this new family comes as the attention of many of the world's aerospace manufacturers is firmly focused on this market, which is projected to be worth almost 1,700 aircraft valued at over $30 billion to the end of the century.
British Aerospace is now offering a developed family for this market. With aircraft already in the flight test program, deliveries to launch customers will begin in March 1993.
This Regional Jetliner family is a re-affirmation of British Aerospace's commitment to the regional aircraft market. The RJ70, RJ85, RJ100 and RJ115 (seating 70, 85, 100 and 115, respectively) will efficiently bridge the gap between available regional turboprops and major jet equipment. Built upon the 10 years operating experience of the BAe 146 with over 1.25 million flying hours, currently performing with a fleet dispatch reliability in excess of 99 percent, the Regional Jetliner family offers the following new features:
-- New cool power from four Textron Lycoming LF507 engines with reduced turbine temperatures, increased thrust and FADEC for greater operating efficiency.
-- New design weights for increased payload and range combined with additional engine power to open up new regional market horizons.
-- New wide-look "Spaceliner" interior -- unmatched comfort standards with advanced profile overhead bins, enhanced lighting and new trims.
-- New Cat IIIA "regional technology" flightdeck, digital flight guidance and digital avionics tailored to the needs of the regional market.
Underpinning British Aerospace's confidence in the low maintenance costs and high reliability of the Regional Jetliner family is the most comprehensive package of support ever offered by any manufacturer in this market.
The new customer support warranties include the unique "JetKey" and "JetStart" packages, that manage and support regional fleets.
And, fundamentally, British Aerospace is now guaranteeing to its customers that the new Regional Jetliners will match the technical costs of a comparable twin. This will give the formidable capabilities of a four-engined aircraft, but at twin engine costs.
Orders and options have already been placed by four airlines for 56 aircraft comprising:
 RJ70 BEX/Delta Connection (20 firm orders)
RJ85 Crossair of Switzerland (4 firm plus 8 options)
Meridiana of Italy (4 firm plus 4 options)
RJ100 Meridiana of Spain (10 options)
RJ115 Dan-Air of Great Britain (4 firm plus 2 options)
Deliveries to Crossair, Dan-Air, and Business Express will begin in March 1993, June 1993 and July 1993, respectively, while those to Meridiana (Italy) will take place in 1994.
British Aerospace, Inc., is the U.S. subsidiary of British Aerospace PLC, responsible for the interests in North and South America of the United Kingdom's largest manufacturing exporter.
