BRITE VOICE SYSTEMS REPORTS 1992 RESULTS

WICHITA, Kan., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Brite Voice Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: BVSI) reported a loss of $88,000, or $.02 per share, for the fourth quarter of 1992 compared to income of $70,000, or $.02 per share, for the same quarter in 1991. Revenues for the quarter ended Dec. 31 were $4,561,000 compared to $4,968,000 during the same period last year. The loss from operations was $414,000 compared to operating income of $10,000 in the prior year.
Stan Brannan, president and chief executive officer, commented, "Although the final quarter of 1992 showed significant improvement from recent quarters, we are still disappointed in our results. Our goal continues to be a return to profitable operations. In the last half of the year, much of our focus was on expanding our managed services business which is built around our expertise in voice and fax technology. Although this focus required a substantial investment in 1992, it resulted in record service revenues for both the third and fourth quarter, and we look forward to continued opportunities in managed services during 1993."
Revenues for the year ended Dec. 31 were $17,514,000 compared to $18,853,000 during 1991. The company incurred a loss from operations of $2,800,000 compared to operating income of $1,134,000, and a net loss of $1,609,000, or $.39 per share, compared to net income of $1,246,000, or $.30 per share, during 1991. The annual results include a restructuring charge of $800,000, taken during the quarter ended June 30, 1992, representing a reserve for severance costs, the settlement of certain consulting contracts and the write-down of certain assets of to net realizable value.
