BRITE ANNOUNCES VOICETONE DIALER; DALLAS COMPANY IS FIRST TO OFFER NEW TECHNOLOGY FROM BRITE VOICE SYSTEMS

DALLAS, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Brite Voice Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: BVSI), announced today at the Cellular Telephone Industry Association convention in Dallas, the company's new voice dialing technology marketed under the product name, VOICETONE(TM) Dialer. Brite's first customer for its new product is MetroCel Cellular, an affiliate of McCaw Cellular/LIN Broadcasting, which launches the new service today in the Dallas/Fort Worth market under the name VoiceTouch(TM).
The technology allows users to store a personal voice directory of words or names, each associated with a specific telephone number, then place a call simply by speaking the appropriate word or name into the phone receiver. For instance, the user accesses the directory, then says, "Call...Office," and the system automatically dials the appropriate telephone number. VOICETONE also recognizes individual digits, which allows the user to place a call by speaking the phone number into the receiver.
BRITE INTEGRATES VOICE CONTROL SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY
Brite's VOICETONE Dialer is an integrated platform using voice recognition technology developed by Voice Control Systems (VCS) of Dallas. VCS has several patents pending on voice dialing and has been issued U.S. patents on speaker verification and alphabet speech recognition technology it has developed. Because Brite installs the technology at the telephone company switch rather than in each telephone, all types of phones can share the new technology. This innovation means even inexpensive phones can offer the power and convenience of voice dialing. Users are not required to purchase new equipment to use the feature.
MetroCel is offering the service to its cellular telephone customers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Based on ongoing testing by MetroCel employees and selected focus groups, Peter Foster, president of VCS said, "The research indicated cellular telephone users were very excited and satisfied with the voice dialing capability. VCS technology is well-tested, with more than 80,000 telephone/cellular voice recognizers in use. The technology is ready for the marketplace, and users tell us they find it easy to use and reliable."
VOICETONE Appeal Not Limited to Cellular Users
Stan Brannan, president of Brite Voice Systems, said VOICETONE is a valuable convenience for cellular phone users and Brite is very excited to be working with McCaw/LIN to roll out this technology to cellular customers. Brannan adds that the technology is not limited to the cellular phone market.
"We've found that many people would like the convenience of being able to use any phone in their home, even rotary phones, and enjoy state-of-the-art features that allow them to access a memory bank of numbers activated by their own voice. We see voice dialing as a logical extension of the residential and business service offered to customers, similar to features such as call waiting and three-way calling."
According to Brannan, users should find the VOICETONE Dialer technology even easier to program than the common speed dialing feature found on the majority of today's telephones. VOICETONE has features designed specifically to facilitate use of the system. These features include a "Program" menu which makes it easy for users to build and maintain their personal directories, and a "Help" option which provides the user with the correct voice commands to navigate through the system while still in the VOICETONE application. There is also a "New Subscriber" tutorial, which is activated when a new user makes the initial call into the system. This function gives the person the option of listening to a recorded overview of the service before choosing to log on as a user.
"Trial-users found the on-line tutorial very helpful in setting up their directories and many told us they created the directory without having to refer to the instruction guide provided with the service," added Brannan.
Brite will offer VOICETONE to residential and business customers by working with local exchange carriers. Brannan said the service has tremendous potential for telephone companies looking for ways to increase revenues from existing customers.
"The system can be offered at a very low cost. Early indications are that the technology offers a very quick pay-back to operators who successfully market the service," said Brannan.
 VOICETONE To Be Marketed Internationally
Brite will offer the VOICETONE technology worldwide and anticipates penetration into foreign markets. Brite is already the supplier of voice messaging systems to the two largest cellular networks in Europe.
Brannan said, "It's our intent to offer VOICETONE in many foreign markets. The convenience of voice dialing your telephone will be popular in any country and in any language."
Brite Voice Systems, based in Wichita, Kan., is a leading supplier of multi-application audiotex and facsimile platforms and managed services for newspapers, telephone companies, long distance carriers and service bureaus. Brite has installed a large number of platforms in the newspaper industry and for talking yellow pages applications.
