BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB ANNOUNCES ELECTION OF SULLIVAN TO BOARD

 NEW YORK, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) today announced that Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) of the United States in the Bush Administration, has been elected to the board of directors, effective Feb. 1.
 Dr. Sullivan was appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services in 1989 and left office on Jan. 20, 1993. His four year tenure as Secretary was the longest in the history of HHS and its predecessor, the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. In his position as Secretary, Dr. Sullivan directed the health care policy of the nation with responsibility for the Social Security Administration, the Public Health Service, the Health Care Financing Administration, and the Administration for Children and Families.
 Dr. Sullivan currently is president of Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. He became founding dean and director of the Medical Education Program at Morehouse College in 1975. When the School of Medicine became independent from Morehouse College in 1981, Dr. Sullivan became its first dean and president. He served as president of the Morehouse School of Medicine until 1989, when he became Secretary of HHS.
 Dr. Sullivan is a 1958 cum laude graduate of Boston University School of Medicine and is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
