BRING ON THE WORLD; DARTS LATEST Wright tips Scots to land big prize.

Byline: NUMBER ONE FOR DARTS Phil Lanning

REVVED-UP Peter Wright fired in his first nine-darter and vowed: "Scotland will win the World Cup".

The multi-coloured mohican ace hit the perfect leg on the way to winning the Players Championship 7 in Coventry on Saturday night, beating James Wade in the final.

For world No.5 Wrighty it was much-needed elation after the deflation of being relegated from the Betway Premier League.

Now the quietly-spoken oche extrovert is back to his bullish best admitting private life problems cost him his league place - and he'll help Scotland win the World Cup in June.

He said: "I had too much rubbish going on in my private life at the start of the year. A third party upsetting my life and that cost me.

"It's so difficult to focus on the game if there's bad outside influences. We've seen that affect other players like Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton.

"I was turning up every week and doing my best. But psychologically I was an empty shell and that's impossible to overcome sometimes. Strangely enough that stopped once I dropped out of the Premier League and it's no coincidence my form has come back since.

"To be honest it means just as much to me to hit a nine-darter as it would to make the last four of the Premier League.

"It's also good to win the Players Championship because that money counts towards my world ranking while the Premier League doesn't. I've been working hard in practice so I'm pretty happy.

"I wired the double 12 for a nine-darter recently in Barnsley and I've had one in practice too but to do it in competition means a lot. With my wife Jo we manage young darts player Nathan Derry and he'd had one before me and was bugging me about it!

"I decided to go a different way to get the perfect leg this time with 60, 45 and 36 and it worked. I also hit eight perfect darts against Denis Smith in the next Championship. My form is back in a big way.

"James beat me 6-5 in a Players Championship final in March and he was becoming a bit of a bogey player - and after the first two legs in the final I thought that again.

"He's playing brilliant darts at the moment and he got to the final twice over the weekend so for me to nick that one is great."

Wright is adamant Scotland will win the World Cup of darts in Frankfurt next month when he teams up with world champ Anderson - taking the title off holders Holland.

Scotland are second seeds behind England but have had a woeful record with humiliating exits at the hands of Spain twice, South Africa and last year Northern Ireland since the event began in 2010.

He added: "Gary's playing brilliantly and I will be bang in form in a month's time. I think we will win it.

"We've not had a great record but this is our time.

"People will make the Dutch favourites with Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld and England have Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis.

"I said all along that I would improve as the year unfolded and I still believe it."
