BRIGGS & STRATTON CORPORATION NEWS RELEASE

 MILWAUKEE, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation
Favorable weather conditions contributed to stronger than expected results for the fourth quarter. Sales increased 11 percent to $302 million. Earnings more than doubled, to $18.1 million or $1.25 per share.
For the fiscal year ended June 27, earnings increased 37 percent to $70.3 million or $4.86 per share. Sales increased 9 percent to $1.14 billion. Engine unit shipments increased 3 percent. Lock unit shipments decreased 1 percent.
As usual, it is too early to make a precise forecast for fiscal 1994. Most major retailers have not made their supply decisions for next season. However, we do not expect any major changes. We believe that economic conditions will be somewhat better next spring, so if the weather is favorable, our sales and earnings should be somewhat higher.
