Cartoon club returning

to Bijou next weekend

Starting May 4, Mr. Sean's Cartoon Club returns to the Bijou Art Cinemas, 492 E. 13th Ave.

The showcase of cartoon classics features everything from Porky Pig to Popeye. The matinees include drawings and prizes.

Mr. Sean's Cartoon Club opens its doors the first and third Sunday of every month from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are $4.

Asian-American festival

continues this weekend

The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival continues this weekend at various venues around town.

The four-day festival features everything from shorts to comedies to documentaries.

Movie shot in Eugene

screens late at night

Before he became a filmmaker, Christopher Sage studied at the University of Oregon. Now a resident of Portland, Sage returns to Eugene for a screening of his new teenage drama, "The Revenants," at the Bijou Art Cinemas.

Shot entirely in Eugene, the movie will be screened at the Hollywood Black Film Festival in June. Locally, it shows at 11:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday.

New animation festival

draws Portland in June

Portland will host a major new animation festival June 25-27.

The Platform International Animation Festival will present more than 100 films from more than 40 countries.

The event also will feature artist exhibitions and discussions, including a showing of ink drawings by comic artist Basil Wolverton and an appearance by comic writer Scott McCloud.
