Event will honor music and spirit of Harrison
Last year, local musicians attracted 250 people to celebrate the music of former Beatle George Harrison, who died in 2001.
Saturday's lineup is once again packed, but this year's proceeds will go to FOOD for Lane County in honor of Harrison's legacy of being one of the first musicians to combine music and charity.
Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh was the first major concert dedicated to raising money for a charitable cause, a release says.
At 7 p.m., Bindaas, featuring sitar and tabla, will start the evening off in the tradition of the Indian music of Harrison's mentor, Ravi Shankar.
Next up is Windhorse, a sacred music ensemble founded by Solala Towle. Wildhorse will be followed by Harrison tunes performed by Paul & Nancy's Love Truffle.
The headliner for the event is the Maya Love Band, which Rob Tobias organized in 2005 for the first Harrison tribute in Eugene.
The group includes Tobias, Jerry Zybach, Jeremy Wegner, Larry Lynch, Tim Miller, Sean Brennan and Beth Rose. It covers Harrison's solo material and some songs from his Beatles and Traveling Wilbury days.
Cozmic Pizza is at 199 W. Eighth Ave. Admission is $5 to $10 at the door.
offers Outlaw Bash
Cascadia Wildlands Project has moved its Outlaw Bash indoors this year.
As in previous years, the benefit show falls on the same weekend as the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference at the University of Oregon. A news release says that ensures "a good and rowdy crowd."
Disco Organica, the Soothsayers, Dirty Water and others will perform. The event is 10 p.m. Saturday at Luckey's, 933 Olive St.
The $5 to $50 sliding-sale donations go to the local nonprofit organization and its efforts to protect old growth forests and endangered wildlife in the Cascades region.
