Suspect sought

in Mapleton bank heist

MAPLETON - Lane County sheriff's deputies were looking for a man suspected of robbing a bank in Mapleton Monday.

A man walked into Siuslaw Bank, 10756 Highway 126, about 11:30 a.m. and demanded cash from the teller. No weapon was seen. He left with an unspecified amount of money, and he was last seen driving away in a late model maroon Ford Taurus, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies believe the man is Elia Pendergrass, 30, of the Mapleton and Florence areas. He is white, 5-feet-8-inches tall, about 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He might be driving a 1991 maroon Taurus sedan, Oregon license plate RKC658.

Deputies asked anyone with information to call the sheriff's office at 682-4150.
