Journey Between Worlds

By Sylvia Louise Engdahl

(Putnam, 230 pages, $17.99)

Eugene writer Sylvia Louise Engdahl wrote six romantic science fiction novels for teenagers between 1970 and 1981. Now, publisher G.P. Putnam has been bringing her books back into print, and "Journey Between Worlds" is the last of the six to be republished.

Independent female heroines in science fiction were a rarity when Engdahl began creating them - and romance novels in the sci-fi genre were even rarer.

"Journey Between Worlds" tells the story of Melinda Ashley, her familiar life on Earth and her adventures on another planet.
