Byline: The Register-GuardMan in murder-suicide accused of abuse earlier
SPRINGFIELD - A man who killed his wife before taking his own life on Saturday was accused a decade ago of physically and mentally abusing another woman, according to Lane County Circuit Court records.
Bryan Stephan Malakoff hit, pushed and threatened his first wife during their 11-year marriage, prompting her to seek a restraining order in February 1996, the records allege. Malakoff was not charged with a crime. He filed for divorce the same month, and their battle over custody of their two children, now 18 and 15, continued until May of last year, when the ex-wife was awarded sole custody of both teens.
Malakoff, 45, shot and killed his second wife, Sarada Malakoff, 31, on Saturday during a dispute at a home in the 1000 block of A Street in Springfield.
Police were called to the rental home at 1:23 p.m. They saw a man look out a window and ordered him to open the door, police said. Officers heard gunshots a short time later. The SWAT team entered the house about 3 p.m. and found two bodies inside.
