Man jailed on weapons, theft, assault charges
COOS BAY - A 38-year-old North Bend man was arrested and lodged in the Coos County Jail after he allegedly fired a rifle near a fast food restaurant in Coos Bay, police said.
A witness told police he was waiting in the drive-through line at Taco Bell about 8:30 p.m. Friday, when a man in a dark blue Cadillac fired a rifle out the car's window. The Cadillac then backed out of line, forcing other waiting cars to move out of the way.
Police located the Cadillac about four blocks away and arrested the driver, Arthur Calderon. Officers found a .243-caliber bolt action rifle inside the car, police said.
Coos Bay police learned that police in North Bend were investigating a similar report of shots fired near Calderon's trailer in the Mill Casino parking lot. Police also learned that the gun seized from Calderon had been stolen from a car parked at Horsefall Beach in the Dunes National Recreation Area, investigators said. And Calderon's girlfriend told police that he had assaulted her earlier that day.
Calderon was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangering, being a felon in possession of a firearm, theft, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and domestic violence assault. He was being held on $147,500 bail.
