StopSignGo wins title

of favorite local band

The votes have been tabulated, and the Community Center for the Performing Arts has announced the winners of the 11th annual WOW Hall Awards for 2004.

Votes - 198 of 'em - were collected from Dec. 31, 2004, to Feb. 13, 2005. And the winners are:

Favorite local band: StopSignGo.

Favorite male performer: Marty Larson-Xu (Rock 'n' Roll Soldiers).

Favorite female performer: Bitch.

Best instrumentalist: Walker T Ryan (guitar).

Best musical performance: Rock 'n' Roll Soldiers with White Hot Odyssey.

Best nonmusical event: Suicide Girls.

Best new act: Xiu Xiu.

Best band name: StopSignGo.

WOW Hall to hold

volunteer orientation

The Community Center for the Performing Arts will host a new-volunteer orientation and training at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave.

New volunteers will learn about the historic WOW Hall and listen to an overview of volunteer responsibilities. Volunteers then may sign up for a variety of positions during show productions, or they can take additional training to work in lighting, sound or the box office.

Volunteers 21 and older also will receive training in Oregon liquor regulations.
