Seniors, disabled invited to meet lawmakers

SPRINGFIELD - The Advocacy Committee of Lane Council of Governments and the Lane Independent Living Alliance invite seniors, people with disabilities, and their advocates, to the first of two chances to meet with members of the Lane County legislative delegation.

The meeting will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Cascade Community Health Solution's Adult Day Health Center, 1621 Centennial Blvd. in Springfield.

Legislators will provide updates on pending legislation and 2005-06 budget issues. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns regarding the future of programs essential to seniors and persons with disabilities.

Informational meeting

addresses city proposal

The Eugene Human Rights Commission invites the public to an information session on March 14 regarding a proposal to extend the city's anti-discrimination protections to transgendered people.

Transgender describes a range of people with conflicts or questions about their gender. Those include people who are born male but think of themselves as female, or vice versa; people who are preparing for a sex change operation or have had a sex change; and transvestites, or cross-dressers.

The session will include an overview of the proposed code language, explanation of the public process for approving the change, a question-and-answer period and chance for public comment.

The session will be at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 777 Pearl Street.

Genealogy seminar

scheduled in Florence

FLORENCE - The Siuslaw Genealogical Society will sponsor a genealogy seminar on Saturday at the Florence Events Center, featuring Leland Meitzler, a nationally known genealogist and editor of Heritage Quest magazine.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. and the seminar will last until 4 p.m.

The cost of the seminar is $40 and includes a buffet lunch.

Teams forming for cancer relay fund-raising race

Teams are now forming for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The event is scheduled for July 29-30 at the Lane Community College track, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene. For information, call (800) ACS-2345.
