City seeks volunteers

to trim trees near river

River Road residents are invited to help neighbors improve a filbert grove along the Willamette River in Eugene on Saturday.

Volunteers, to be instructed by city arborists, are needed between 9 a.m. and noon to trim dead wood from about 50 filbert trees. The grove is at the end of McClure Drive, near the west bike path.

Tools, gloves and safety gear will be provided. Water and a restroom will be available. The city's Volunteers in Parks program is organizing the event. For information about this and other parks projects, call 682-4845.
