Jobs Corps training

orientations on Thursday

CORRECTION (ran 12/29/04): The phone number for the Job Corps orientation, mentioned in the Monday briefs column on Page C2, is (877) 562-2677. An incorrect number was published.

Job Corps orientations are held from 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each Thursday at the employment office, 2510 Oakmont Way. Job Corps is a no-cost vocational training program for low-income youth between the ages of 16 and 24. For information, call (877) 562-2277.

Meeting topic is external oversight of police

Whether the Eugene Police Department should be subject to external oversight will be discussed Friday at the City Club of Eugene.

Speakers will include Lane County Circuit Judge Cindy Carlson, police commission member Tim Laue and Guadalupe Quinn from Communities United for Better Policing.

The meeting, at the Hilton Eugene, begins at 11:50 a.m. A follow-up discussion will be at 5:05 p.m. Jan. 4 at Cafe Paradiso, Broadway and Olive Street.
