Snow reported south

on I-5 and in Oakridge

Winter made a strong showing in some areas Monday night.

Snow hampered travel on Interstate 5 just south of Canyonville, closing the road and turning back the South Eugene High School girls basketball team. The squad was en route to play Grants Pass but snow hampered traffic on one of the passes between Canyonville and Grants Pass and police and transportation workers rerouted traffic back northbound.

Snow was also reported in Oakridge on Monday evening. About an inch stuck around in the city before the snow turned to rain at night.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow for parts of the Cascades today, but warmer weather, rising freezing levels and rain predicted through the rest of this week.
