The man who helped save the Grand Canyon from being dammed, the late conservationist David Brower, will be remembered at the Mountain Film Festival. The 70-minute documentary, "Monumental: David Brower's Fight for Wild America," will be the featured film at the event, which happens at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Prince Lucien Campbell Hall, room 180.
"Monumental" will be one of six movies showing at Thursday's festival.
Tickets are $6 for students, Outdoor Co-op members and Cascadia Wildlands Project members or $8 for the general public.
Harrelson brings `Go
Further' to Eugene
Actor Woody Harrelson will visit the Bijou Arts Cinemas, 492 E. 13th Ave., on Thursday for a sneak preview of the new documentary "Go Further."
The film follows Harrelson and his "Merry Hempsters" as they road-tripped in 2001 from Seattle to Los Angeles on an eco-tour that included a stop at the University of Oregon.
The film features an interview with the late Ken Kesey, as well as musical performances from Dave Matthews, Bob Weir and others. The sneak preview will screen at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
The film will open Nov. 12.
Anime sequel takes over Bijou late night spot
The anime sequel "Ghost in the Shell 2,' from writer/director Mamoru Oshii, will take to the silver screen this weekend as the late night feature at the Bijou Arts Cinemas.
The film, in Japanese with English subtitles, will screen at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A Saturday matinee begins at 3 p.m.
Open caption screening set for `Sky Captain'
`Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' will show with open captions at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at Cinema World. The film is rated PG.
