Applications available for Country Fair grants

VENETA - Applications are available to nonprofit organizations wanting to submit proposals for grants from the Oregon Country Fair's Jill Heiman Vision Fund.

Each year, the fair honors the memory of Heiman, a longtime supporter, by making grants to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations in Lane County. Grants are in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.

Eugene PeaceWorks sets fund-raising boutique

Eugene PeaceWorks' "Bust Bush Boutique" is back for a second weekend, but this time at a new location.

The boutique - offering clothes, ornaments and stuffed animals with peace symbols or messages - will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 2510 Augusta St. in the Laurel Valley neighborhood.

"Peace-L-Toe" (mistletoe with peace ornaments) will be among the items available for purchase.

Proceeds will go to the peace group's Committee for Countering Military Recruitment, which works to educate low-income high school students who may be approached by U.S. military recruiters.

Rubicon Society speaker

to discuss Measure 30

The Rubicon Society of Lane County will meet at noon on Thursday at the Pearl Street Ice Cream Parlour, 1313 Pearl Street. Russ Walker, Oregon director for the Citizens for a Sound Economy, will discuss that organization's opposition to Ballot Measure 30.
