Buster B. Jones picks up

on the holidays at Luna

Speedy finger-style guitarist Buster B. Jones may be just the thing to counteract all that tryptophan that's sure to be flooding the veins of area residents Thursday.

Jones, who's been called "The Machine Gun" for his rapid-fire delivery, will host a holiday-themed guitar show at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Luna, 30 E. Broadway. Listen for shades of Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Jerry Reed.

The cover is $10.

Oregon graduate will present free concert

Spiritual folk-pop singer-songwriter Angie Renich will give a free performance at 7:30 p.m. today at the Valley Covenant Church, 3636 W. 18th Ave.

A graduate of the University of Oregon music composition program, the classically trained Renich released the album "Luminary" in 2002.

Grateful Dead concert

from '78 to be shown

"The Closing of Winterland 12/31/78," a film documenting the Grateful Dead's performances at the famed San Francisco venue, will be the centerpiece of the Grateful Dead Vault Party happening at 8 p.m. Saturday at the McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St.

The movie features interview footage directed by Ken Kesey and footage shot at the final show. The theater was known as the "big room" of Bill Graham Presents, and was the regular New Year's Eve venue for the Dead until it was closed in 1978.

Tickets for Saturday's screening are $8.

Starsailor will tour

North America next year

The British band Starsailor, whose forthcoming album ``Silence Is Easy'' includes two tracks produced by Phil Spector, will start a North American tour Jan. 15 in Detroit.

The album due Jan. 27 in the United States. The tour comes to Portland's Berbati's Pan on Feb. 5.
