Jo Fed's turns tables
on annual art contest
If your medium is crayon on butcher paper, you might have what it takes to win the Table Top Art Contest at Jo Federigo's Restaurant and Jazz Club, 259 E. Fifth Ave.
The venue, which is known for covering its tables in white paper and handing out crayons for doodling, has extended the deadline for submissions until Nov. 25.
The first place prize is $150, and second place is $75. Ten third-place finishers will win gift certificates.
Historian presents Irish immigration story
Musician and historian Jeni Foster will present "My Grandfather's Immigrant Eyes: Songs and History of the Irish Emigration to America," a free program at 7 p.m. Monday in the library meeting room of Springfield City Hall, 225 Fifth St.
The event is sponsored by the Springfield Public Library and the Oregon Council for the Humanities.
Cozmic Pizza develops a Latin flavor this weekend
Latin and World Beat Weekend kicks off at 8 p.m. today at Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. Eighth Ave., with `A Night in Brazil,' featuring the groups Serenata and Macaco Velho. The cover is $5. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, `Jazz Goes Brazilian' with the groups Midnight Sun and Ritmo de la Noche. The cover is $6.
Celtic music, dance
The third annual Celtic Music Festival whirls into Yachats today and Saturday.
The festival includes music performances, dancing, hands-on workshops and other family-friendly events at several different locations.
The event is a fund-raiser for the Yachats Commons, Highway 101 at Fifth Street, where many of the events will take place.
