American Indian festival

sounds off in Reedsport

Along with fresh alder-smoked salmon and hands-on watershed education, music and entertainment will be center stage at this weekend's Tsalila Umpqua River Festival at the Umpqua Discover Center, on the river in Reedsport.

The event will feature American Indian drumming and dancing, as well as a performance by flute player Bruce Jarvis.

The "waste-reduction" band Enuf! will be playing their trademark "enviro-boogie" on "wastruments." And Roseburg's Joe Ross will be performing his educational music show, the `Roots of Bluegrass.'

The free festival is put on by the Tsalila Partnership, a coalition of local, state, federal and tribal organizations.

The festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the center, 409 Riverfront Way.
