League of Women Voters unit meetings set

"Understanding Oregon's Electricity Issues" will be the topic of meetings sponsored this month by the League of Women Voters of Lane County. Meetings will be held:

Monday - 10 a.m., 330 Olive St.; 11 a.m. (with potluck lunch), 1235 Fir Acres Drive; 11:30 a.m., 2050 Madison St.

Tuesday - 9:30 a.m., 1473 Luella St.

Wednesday - 9:30 a.m., Central Presbyterian Church, 1475 Ferry St.; noon, Room 136, Lane Community College in Cottage Grove, 1275 S. River Road; 4 p.m., 2775 Emerald St.

Friday - 1 p.m., 2050 Goodpasture Loop, No. 21.

Spaghetti dinner set to benefit scholarship fund

The Cottage Grove American Legion Post, 826 W. Main St., will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to raise money for its scholarship fund. Tickets cost $4.50 for adults and $2 for children younger than 12.

Lineage workshop tracks family, national history

The Oregon Lewis and Clark Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a free workshop Wednesday to help participants learn if an ancestor took part in the American Revolution.

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oregon Genealogical Society Library, 955 Oak Alley.

Air Force officer promoted and decorated

Michael L. Martin has been promoted to the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force. He was also decorated with the Joint Service Achievement Medal, which is awarded by the secretary of defense for meritorious service, achievement or accomplishment with distinction while assigned to a joint activity. He earned the medal while assigned as a watch officer to the 607th Combat Operations Squadron at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea.

Martin, the son of Jack and Nancy Martin of Springfield, graduated from Springfield High School in 1984.
