City Club to hear talk on medical patents
Physician and patent attorney William Noonan of Portland will talk to the City Club of Eugene about the history of medicine patents, including patents on DNA, genetic information and bioinformatic analysis of the Human Genome Project.
The meeting will be held Fridayat 11:50 a.m.at the Downtown Athletic Club, 999 Willamette St. There is a $3 charge to attend. Lunch is optional.
Physician to discuss Ayurvedic body types
Dr. Sarita Shrestha, an Ayurvedic physician from Nepal, will speak Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tamarack Wellness Center, 3575 Donald St. Her talk will teach participants how to distinguish the three basic Ayurvedic body types and make diet and lifestyle choices based on body type. Private consultations are also available.

River Road Pool offering public swimming lessons
The River Road Park and Recreation District will offer swimming lessons to the general public starting Monday at River Road Pool, 1400 Lake Drive, Eugene.

Youth applicants sought for Lane County panel
The Lane County commissioners seek youth applicants for the Commission on Children and Families.
The commission promotes a responsive, accessible system of supports for the wellness of all Lane County children, youth and families. The commission advises on critical issues and services affecting county youth.
There are one to two monthly meetings and one vacancy.
Rural applicants and citizens representing groups related to race, gender, disability, socioeconomic and other diverse interests are encouraged to apply. The term is four years.
Applications are available in the Board of County Commissioners' Office, Public Service Building, 125 E. Eighth Ave., Eugene. Applications are available by calling 682-4671. The deadline to apply is July 10.
