Group seeks donations
for Coats for Kids drive
The Eugene Active 20-30 Club's 17th annual Coats for Kids project will begin Tuesday and run through Oct. 12. It is a communitywide drive to help kids in Lane County keep warm during the winter.
Coats can be dropped off at the following locations: any branch of Oregon Community Credit Union; Umpqua Bank; First Tech Credit Union; Pacific Continental Banks; as well as Jones & Roth, PC; Monaco Coach; Hynix Semiconductor; Children's Choice Montessori School; Springfield High School; Brad's Cottage Grove Chevrolet; Thurston High School; Plaza Cleaners in Cottage Grove; Master Cleaners; Springfield Cleaners; Hi-Tech Green Cleaners; Skopil's Cleaners; The Cleanery; McAyeal's Cleaners and others.
Coats will be cleaned free of charge at participating cleaners and distributed to service agencies in Lane County, including SCAR/Jasper Mountain, Birth to Three, Parent Partnership and Relief Nursery.

Scandinavian Festival seeks board members
The Junction City Scandinavian Festival Association is accepting applications for positions on its 2008 board of directors. There are six openings for three-year terms on the 15-member board. A business or financial background is a plus but not required.
Interested people may submit a bio and/or resume to the Scandinavian Festival Association, P.O. Box 5, Junction City, OR 97448, by Sept. 15. Elections will be held Sept. 24 at the annual meeting.

Agency to offer class
for potential homeowners
Would-be homeowners can learn more about buying a house at an all-day "ABCs of Home Buying" class on Saturday.
Sponsored monthly by the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation, or NEDCO, the eight-hour session covers financial preparation, shopping for a home, finding a good mortgage, down payment assistance, loan programs and navigating the closing process.
Completion is required for new homeowners to qualify for local down payment and closing cost programs such as the Oregon State Bond low-interest loan, and the PAL down payment assistance program.
Participants in the class must register either online at www.nedcocdc.org, at NEDCO's Homeownership Center at 783 Grant St. in Eugene or by calling the center at 345-7106.
The class will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Homeownership Center. Cost is $40 for an individual or $45 for a couple sharing a workbook and purchasing a home together. The fee includes lunch, but child care is not available.
Group offers support for
those who have lost a child
The Compassionate Friends support group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at PeaceHealth Medical Group, 1162 Willamette St., Eugene.
Compassionate Friends is a self-help group offering support, understanding, grief education and hope to families who have experienced the death of a child at any age from any cause. For more information, call 689-1626.

to discuss 2008 race
REEDSPORT - The local Democratic Party will meet Tuesday at Bedrock's Pizzeria, 2165 Winchester Ave. in Reedsport at 5 p.m.

Bridgeway House offers
services for autistic kids
Bridgeway House will open for the fall on Sept. 10 with continuing and new classes, social groups and mentoring opportunities for autistic children.
Children and teens can earn credit or community hours by participating in the social groups. Bridgeway House is located at 708 W. 10th Ave. For more information, call 345-0805.
