Byline: The Register-GuardFund set to help family left homeless by fire
A fund has been set up at US Bank to help the Hecht family, whose Allea Drive home was destroyed in a fire on Dec. 9.
All family members escaped from their uninsured home with nothing but the clothes on their backs, said Pat McGillivray, spokesman for the Bethel School District. The family has children at Irving Elementary, Shasta Middle School and Willamette High School.
The Hechts are staying in temporary housing, paid for by the Red Cross, but it's only available through this weekend, he said. The staff at Irving has been taking up a cash collection to assist with lodging as the family looks for more permanent housing. The school is also accepting donations of gift cards for local stores, such as Safeway and Fred Meyer.
Anyone wishing to contribute may contact the school at 688-2620 or send checks to US Bank, 1400 Highway 99N, Eugene, OR 97402. Make the checks out to: Roberta Hecht Donation, Account No. 153657457872.
