Plant sale to benefit

program for children

The annual Whiteaker Plant Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Scobert Gardens, Fourth Avenue and Blair Blvd.

Trees, shrubs, perennials, natives and houseplants donated from more than 15 local nurseries will be available for sale.

Proceeds provide free Tai Chi lessons, concerts and activities for children at the Scobert Gardens. For more information, contact 686-4646.

Police department to hold

annual open house party

SPRINGFIELD - The police department invites the public to visit its headquarters today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for its annual open house.

People can have refreshments, take part in department tours, watch police dog demonstrations, and check out the SWAT van, police motorcycles, police bicycles, DARE cars and patrol cars. Kids can make police hats, watch puppet shows and color in coloring books. Police officers and other department personnel will be on hand, along with McGruff the Crime Dog.

Enter the department off Fourth Street, between A and B streets. For more information, call 726-3731.

Performer cancels show at downtown nightclub

Leon Russell's Sunday night show at the Jungle in downtown Eugene has been canceled.

Ticketholders can obtain refunds at the Jungle or through TicketsWest.
