Red Cross to teach
The Oregon Pacific Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering four different emergency service classes to train residents on becoming Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers. These volunteers help provide emergency food, shelter, clothing, medical supplies and counseling to disaster victims.
The first course, "Introduction to Disaster Services," will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The course provides basic information about disasters and its effects.
The second course, "Mass Care: An Overview," will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Information will include skills and abilities needed by mass care workers and how volunteers can get started in their local chapter.
"Damage Assessment I" is the third class, to be held on June 24, also from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants will be trained as damage assessment workers, obtaining and reporting damage assessment information and providing operational support.
The last emergency service class, "Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance," is a full-day course scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 26. This course teaches the skills necessary to perform quality interviews, complete forms, provide referrals and meet the emergency needs of those affected by disaster.
All four classes will be held at 862 Bethel Drive in Eugene. Classes are open to the public and free, but require preregistration. To register or for information, call 344-5244 or visit the Bethel Drive office; or go to www.oregonpacific.redcross.org.
