BRIEFLY TEEN GETS CYA TERM FOR INVASION ROBBERY.

LANCASTER - A Rialto teen-ager convicted in a home-invasion robbery has been sentenced to serve time in a California Youth Authority facility.

Mark Anthony Powell, 18, was sentenced Friday to up to 16 years, but under juvenile law can be held only until he's 25, defense attorney Marc Herbert said. Powell will eligible for release after three years.

Powell originally was charged in the Aug. 31 robbery and a police pursuit the next day in which a California Highway Patrol officer was shot at with an Uzi assault rifle. The car chase charges were dismissed after Powell admitted to a charge of residential robbery in Lancaster Juvenile Court.

Powell was among four young men arrested in the robbery and chase. Two co-defendants were sentenced to between 13 and 15 years in prison after entering guilty pleas, and a third received a 23-year sentence after being convicted in a jury trial.
