BRIEFLY : CUSTOMERS TREATED FOR PEPPER SPRAY.

Friday afternoon a can of pepper spray was set off accidentally inside a discount store, fire officials said.

Officials who arrived at the Family Bargain Center at 1070 West Ave. K shortly after 3 p.m. found 23 people suffering from coughing, nausea and dizziness.

``A can of pepper spray was accidentally opened,'' said Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Gary Wise. ``They're evacuating the store and ventilating it.''

The store was temporarily shut down as fire officials cleared the air and treated the patients. Six people were taken to a hospital, and others were being evaluated.
