BRIAN WRUBLE NAMED PRESIDENT AND A DIRECTOR
 DELAWARE MANAGEMENT HOLDINGS
PHILADELPHIA, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Brian F. Wruble, president and chief executive of Equitable Capital Management Corporation, has been appointed president and a director of Delaware Management Holdings, Inc., a leading money-management company based here.
The appointment, effective upon his resignation from Equitable on May 11, was announced today by Wayne Stork, Delaware's chairman and chief executive officer. Delaware manages some $24 billion in pension and mutual funds and is the seventh largest independent money-management firm in the country.
"Brian Wruble has proven over many years that he is an outstanding investment manager and a superb manager of people," said Stork. "We and our clients are indeed fortunate that Brian will be joining Delaware and applying his expertise and strengths in a broad managerial role.
"He will also figure very prominently in our succession planning," Stork said. Wruble is 48, Stork 54.
Wruble also is executive vice president and chief investment officer of The Equitable Life Assurance Society.
"The opportunity that Delaware offers," Wruble said, "is one that I just could not resist. The firm is a gem among money managers; it is entrepreneurial, and I will be able to share in the ownership. For several years I've yearned to participate in a company where I have an important equity ownership position and which I can help build. Delaware is the quintessential example of such an opportunity.
"The new position will also provide a very positive and attractive change in lifestyle for me and my family."
At Equitable Capital Management, Wruble managed more than $36 billion in assets that are invested in behalf of institutional and individual clients. For Equitable Life, he had responsibility for some $70 billion in assets.
Wruble joined Equitable in 1979 as a vice president and head of the portfolio management department. He became a senior vice president and chief of finance operations in 1983 and became Equitable's youngest executive vice president in 1984.
He was named chief executive of Equitable Capital when it was founded in 1985, and he became Equitable Life's chief investment officer in April 1991.
Before joining Equitable, Wruble was vice president and co-manager of equities research for Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Company. Altogether, he spent 10 years with Wall Street firms.
Wruble was a McMullen Scholar at Cornell University, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering. He holds a master's degree in business administration on Bratton, live in New York City and Fredericktown, Md.
