BRIAN SMITH NAMED PRESIDENT OF COLE NATIONAL;
JEFFREY COLE TAKES ON CHAIRMAN'S ROLE
CLEVELAND, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Cole National Corporation announced today that Brian Smith has been named president. He had been executive vice president and chief operating officer.
At the same time, the company announced that Jeffrey A. Cole has been named chairman of the company and will continue to function as chief executive and chief financial officer. Cole had been vice chairman.
Cole National is a Cleveland-based specialty retailer that sells its products through leased departments in department stores like Sears Roebuck & Co. and Montgomery Ward and through in-line stores and kiosks in large shopping malls. It was founded over 50 years ago by Joseph E. Cole, who had been chairman but will now be senior chairman.
Cole National's operating businesses include Things Remembered, Inc., which sells personalized gifts; Cole Key Corporation, which provides key duplicating, engraving and watch repair services as well as personalized gifts and greeting cards; and Cole Vision Corporation, which sells prescription eyewear and optical products directly to consumers and vision-care benefits to employers and other healthcare providers.
The company has more than 2,000 outlets. Revenues for the fiscal year ended Feb. 2, 1992, are expected to be more than $400 million.
