BRIAN ANDERSON NAMED OFFICER OF BAXTER

 DEERFIELD, Ill., May 14 /PRNewswire/-- Baxter International (NYSE; BAX) announced today that its board of directors has named Brian P. Anderson an officer of the company and appointed him corporate controller.
 Anderson, 42, joined Baxter's finance department in 1991 as vice president, corporate audit. Before joining Baxter, he was a partner with Deloitte & Touche, a public-accounting firm. Anderson holds a master's degree in finance and accounting from Indiana University and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Howard University. He is a certified public accountant.
 Anderson replaces Melvyn R. Kalas, who will retire at the end of June. Kalas, 59, joined the company in 1968 and has been controller and a corporate vice president of Baxter since 1985.
 Baxter, through its subsidiaries, is the leading manufacturer and marketer of health-care products and services worldwide. The company reported 1992 sales from continuing operations of $8.5 billion.
