BREED TECHNOLOGIES, INC. ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENTS

BOONTON TOWNSHIP, N.J., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- -Allen Breed, chairman of Breed Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BDT), announced today that the company is moving forward with its product development efforts on three new products.
The company is proceeding with the development and introduction of its retrofit facebag supplemental restraint system using its patented all-mechanical system. This product will be introduced in the aftermarket. There are more than 25 million vehicles in the U.S. that could be retrofitted with this supplemental restraint system. The introduction is scheduled for the second half of calendar 1993.
Breed is continuing with the development of a family of proprietary digital and analog all-electronic airbag sensing systems, which include diagnostics. Breed is working with a substantial Japanese-based electronics company on an important component design for these systems. This sensing and diagnostic system is presently undergoing crash testing at a U.S. auto manufacturer.
Allen Breed said he "is pleased with the company's progress on its new line of electrically initiated sodium azide airbag inflators and modules". The Breed product line is targeted to provide a family of products meeting the requirements for all vehicles worldwide. The Company expects this product line to have certain cost and performance advantages over present products. A Breed inflator has been successfully validated for one of the U.S. big three automakers. Although the company does not yet have a customer order, it will be prepared to ship these inflators in the 1994 model year.
Allen Breed said he "is excited about the prospects for these new products." Company management believes that expenses to support these programs are containable within the company's previously budgeted 1993 results of operations.
Breed Technologies, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design, development, manufacture and sale of crash sensors used in automotive airbag systems. The company also sells complete all-mechanical airbag systems and is developing a complete line of electrically-initiated airbag inflators and modules for worldwide applications.
