BREAKTHROUGH IN S.D.M.I./TEAMSTER NEGOTIATIONS

 BREAKTHROUGH IN S.D.M.I./TEAMSTER NEGOTIATIONS
FREMONT, Calif., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- We were pleased to learn

that Specialized Distribution Management Inc. (S.D.M.I.) has offered employment to every Safeway employee at our Richmond and Fremont Distribution Centers, our San Leandro Milk Plant and our Oakland Ice Cream Plant.
While we do not yet know the specifics of the S.D.M.I. offer, we do know that the proposal is for at least $16.00 per hour, a figure at which some 140 present Safeway employees already have been hired by S.D.M.I.
We assume that our employees will now be given the opportunity to vote on this generous proposal. The union leaders have said for weeks that their only concern was that every Safeway employee at Fremont, Richmond, San Leandro and at the Oakland Ice Cream Plant be offered jobs at Tracy. That has now happened!
