WOODBURY, N.Y., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Bravo, television's cultural channel, dedicates December to raising awareness and funds to fight AIDS.
Dec. 1, which has been designated as World AIDS Day by the World Health Organization of the United Nations, marks Bravo's fourth annual AIDS telethon, Unfinished Stories, which kicks off at 8 p.m. EST.
At 8 p.m. EST on World AIDS Day, Bravo will lead the television industry in dramatizing the impact of AIDS by organizing "A Moment Without Television." Produced and distributed by Bravo annually on World AIDS Day since 1990, "A Moment Without Television" is a specially designed 60-second public service announcement which calls attention to the devastating number of lives affected by HIV/AIDS.
This year, "A Moment Without Television" will be co-sponsored by Cable Positive, a newly formed industry organization whose goal is to unify the cable industry to raise AIDS awareness and funds to promote a more compassionate climate for people whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Last year, the tribute was simulcast by more than 35 cable networks and satellite services. "A Moment Without Television" is the television industry's contribution to "Day without Art" activities organized by Visual AIDS.
"The need to educate the American public about the AIDS epidemic is critical -- the time is now to join forces and support people in communities across the country living with AIDS," commented Josuha Sapan, president, Bravo. "The World Health Organization of the United Nations has designated this World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, to the theme of 'community commitment.' We hope Unfinished Stories will help make that commitment a reality."
Viewers may call 800-321-AIDS throughout the month to donate funds which will go directly to local AIDS charities. All funds raised during Unfinished Stories will be distributed by Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS which directly funds community-based programs caring for people with AIDS and their families throughout America.
Bravo is television's cultural network, seen in more than 9 million homes.
