BRANDED MEDS PRICES RIP-OFF.
People stocking up on popular remedies could save a packet by opting for generic alternatives.
Consumer watchdog Which? found the total cost of buying 20 well-known products, including Nurofen, Gaviscon and Piriteze, can add up to PS96.79 - while non-branded options with identical ingredients come to as little as PS18.82.
Headache medication Nurofen Ibuprofen cost PS2.50 in Wilko but a cheaper version of the drug was just 24p in Poundstretcher.
Hayfever tablets Piriteze were PS10.10 at Waitrose, while a generic version in Poundstretcher was 79p.
And indigestion relief Gaviscon was PS3 per 100ml in Sainsbury's - or 60p per 100ml for a Poundstretcher alternative.
Which? said: "It pays to know how to shop for budget alternatives."
