BP TO OPERATE BADAMI DISCOVERY

HOUSTON, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. has entered into a joint venture with DuPont Conoco and Petrofina Delaware, Inc., to further evaluate the recently announced Badami oil discovery and will operate appraisal phase of the joint venture area between the Endicott field and the Point Thomson Unit on Alaska's North Slope.
The Badami No. 1 discovery well, drilled in 1990 by Conoco and Petrofina, tested at 4,250 barrels of oil a day. A second well was drilled in 1992, but results have not been released. No reserve estimates have been released by the two companies.
Eric Luttrell, BP's vice president in charge of exploration, said a joint technical team already is in place to address key issues that potentially would drive a Badami development.
The joint venture area includes 17 leases comprising more than 70,000 acres about 20 miles east of Endicott.
Under terms of the agreement, BP's equity depends on the extent of appraisal and exploration work performed. A 3-dimensional seismic survey conducted by GECO-Prakla Inc. is scheduled to begin this month. Additional drilling to further delineate the field will be contingent on the results of the seismic survey.
