BP RESPONDS TO STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S FINDINGS
SEATTLE, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- BP Oil Company said today that it

disagrees with the contentions of the State Attorney General's office challenging its acquisition of Exxon's properties in the Seattle-Tacoma market. The company expects to complete the acquisition.
BP's western region manager, Jack Burdett, said "BP Oil believes that this acquisition is consistent with the law and will benefit competition in the Seattle-Tacoma market which is one of the most competitive in the nation. We have been negotiating with the Attorney General's office to resolve concerns in a few local markets," Burdett said, "but even without this fine-tuning, we are convinced that our planned acquisition is entirely consistent with the objectives of the antitrust laws. We hope to reach agreement with the Attorney General in the near future, but will defend our position in court if necessary."
BP announced in September that it had agreed to purchase the Exxon locations. The company feels that the acquisition will benefit the people of Seattle-Tacoma as they are committed to upgrading and operating these outlets as they did the Mobil outlets two years ago. Burdett said, "We have been pleased with the strong support we've received from dealers and customers since entering the market two years ago. We are extremely disappointed that this acquisition is being questioned and that our growth in a market where we've received such strong support may be limited."
