BP INTRODUCES CUSTOMER-FRIENDLY STAGE II VAPOR RECOVERY EQUIPMENT

ATLANTA, Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- BP Oil Company announced today that it has introduced customer friendly Stage II vapor recovery equipment at many of its stations in the Atlanta area. The BP equipment is lighter weight, less bulky and easier to use than other equipment and has received all necessary approvals from environmental agencies including the California Air Resource Board (CARB). The equipment also meets the requirements of the Clean Air Act.
The technology BP is utilizing is called a vacuum assist system. The system removes gasoline vapors from the air during the fueling process and is easy to use. The nozzle varies only slightly from those which customers are used to using and relies on a built in vacuum pump to remove the vapors from the air to the gasoline storage tanks. From the tanks the vapors are recovered by gasoline delivery trucks and are recycled back into gasoline.
Ronnie Manton, BP's division manager in Atlanta, said, "We chose the vacuum assist system over existing technology because we knew it would be easier for our customers to use. We pride ourselves in being a customer responsive company and this drove our decision on the equipment despite the additional costs."
BP Oil Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of British Petroleum p.l.c. based in London and has operated service stations in the Atlanta area since 1985.
