earns Eagle Scout rank

Joshua Thomas Whiddon, a member of Troop No. 175 in Eugene, was honored at an Eagle Court of Honor on Dec. 9 at Riviera Baptist Church in Eugene. Eagle Scout is the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts.

Whiddon, a sophomore at Sheldon High School, is the son of John and Audrey Whiddon. He joined Scouts in 2002, earned 40 merit badges and held the positions of den chief, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and Scout mentor. He attended Camp Baker, Camp Parsons, Camp Meriwether and Camp Pioneer.

His service project, completed for the Springfield-Marcola Family Resource Center, involved designing, planning, building and installing double-bar clothes racks and adjustable shelving. The project required 394 hours and 36 helpers.
