BOWLS: Bowls title is Granted; UPDATE.

DAVID GOURLAY had to settle for second place when he lost the final of the Ayr Open bowls tournament to Willie Grant of Newton Park.

The world No.1 bounced back from 17-9 down to level at 18-18 but Grant took the next two ends.

The women's singles title went to Cumnock's Liz Magorian who edged Maybole's Helen Clark 21-19.

TENNIS: St Andrew's teenager Graham Hood won the men's singles title at the Scottish Championships in Broughty Ferry, beating top seed Jason Barnett of Aberdeen 6- 2 6-2.

Top seed Jenna Cockburn beat Sarah McFadyen by the same score to take the ladies title.

CRICKET: Holders Greenock swept into the last four of the Coronel Scottish Cup when they thrashed Stoneywood- Dyce.

Clydesdale pipped Forfarshire in a bowling shoot-out as did Greenock to edge West of Scotland. Grange complete the semi- final line-up.

CYCLING: Edinburgh's James Taylor won 1km gold at the Scottish Track Championships and was part of the winning team sprint trio.

SPEEDWAY: Berwick Bandits last night extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points, beating Newcastle Diamonds 54-36 at Shielfield. Claus Kristensen was the home star with a maximum of 14 points from five races.

AUTO: Mechanical trouble forced Scotland's Dario Franchitti out of the Mid-Ohio GP won by Patrick Carpentier at Lexington.
