ANNOUNCE COMPLETION OF GURUH-1 OIL DISCOVERY
CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Bow Valley Industries Ltd. (AMEX, Toronto, Montreal: BVI) and Canada Northwest Energy Ltd., a subsidiary of Sherritt Gordon Ltd. (Toronto: SE), announced the completion of the Guruh-1 oil discovery in the Ogan Komering Contract Area in South Sumatra, Indonesia.
Guruh-1, located on a separate structure 1.2 miles east of the Air Serdang oil field, reached a total depth of 5,861 feet. Subsequent testing of perforations from 5,158 feet to 5,181 feet at the top of the Baturaja Limestone resulted in a flow of 2,819 barrels of oil per day (29.7 degrees API), plus 657,000 cubic feet of gas per day on a one-inch choke with no water.
The drilling rig, on contract since June 1991, has now returned to the Air Serdang oil field to resume drilling development wells. Two recently drilled development wells, the ASDJ-4 and ASDJ-5 wells, were completed in the Baturaja Limestone with flow rates of 1,413 barrels of oil per day on a half-inch choke and 3,069 barrels of oil per day on a one-inch choke, respectively. It is anticipated that production from Air Serdang will commence in April 1992.
The Ogan Komering Contract Area is operated by Pertamina, the Indonesian national oil company, with a 50 percent interest through a joint operating body (JOB), assisted by Bow Valley Industries Ltd. and Canada Northwest Energy Ltd., each with a 25 percent interest.
