BOSTON TECHNOLOGY SIGNS CONTRACT WITH THE URMET GROUP OF ITALY
WAKEFIELD, Mass., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSTN) today announced that it has signed a contract with Urmet Sud of Italy, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer. The contract provides for Urmet Sud to distribute Boston Technology's CO ACCESS platforms and applications in Italy and Spain with exclusive rights for Urmet Sud to provide Boston Technology equipment to SIP, Italy's telephone company.
The contract with Urmet resulted in part from efforts made during a trade mission organized by the Massachusetts state government. Boston Technology's chief executive officer, Greg Carr, and Paul DeLacey, the general manager for the company's international subsidiary, together with the Massachusetts Lieutenant Gov. Paul Cellucci, met with the Urmet group in Rome in March 1992. "This contract shows that Massachusetts companies can complete -- and win -- in international markets," Cellucci said. "Gov. Weld and I would like to congratulate Greg Carr and his staff. Their commitment to exporting has certainly paid off."
DeLacey commented, "We are pleased to have completed our agreement with Urmet Sud. We have been pursuing many opportunities throughout Asia, Europe and Latin America and are very excited about the potential for Boston Technology in the international voice processing market."
DeLacey added, "Many international telephone companies are interested in Boston Technology because of our successes with the Regional Bell Operating Companies here in the United States and the focus and experience we have in implementing central office based equipment."
Claudio Tomasich, managing director of Urmet Sud, commented, "Boston Technology's systems have the applications and processing capacity that we require for our European telephone company customers. Many European telephone companies, including SIP of Italy, are now getting ready to deploy voice messaging service to their residential and business customers. We believe that Boston Technology's experience in this area is a significant advantage."
Founded in 1937 and headquartered in Turin, Italy, the Urmet group is among the leading telecommunications companies in Europe, specializing in public telephone applications and special services. The Urmet group has interests in many countries outside Europe, including major facilities in South America and the Far East.
Based in Wakefield, Mass., Boston Technology develops, manufactures, markets and supports enhanced voice processing platforms for Regional Bell Operating Companies, independent telephone companies, long distance providers, cellular and international telecommunications companies.
