BOSTON TECHNOLOGY APPOINTS DR. JOHN TAYLOR AS CEO; FORMER NORTHERN TELECOM, GENERAL DATACOMM EXECUTIVE JOINS COMPANY

 WAKEFIELD, Mass., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSTN) announced today that John C. Taylor is joining the company as president and chief executive officer. Dr. Taylor will succeed David S. Gergacz, who will remain with the company as a strategic advisor.
 Dr. Taylor has more than 22 years of experience in the communications industry, including senior management positions at Northern Telecom, Inc., and General DataComm, Inc.
 From 1991 to 1992 he served as corporate vice president of business development for Northern Telecom, responsible for corporate business strategy and investment for the company's billion-dollar annual research and development program, as well as for mergers and acquisitions planning. From 1987 to 1991, he was group vice president of transmission for Northern Telecom.
 From 1982 to 1987 Dr. Taylor was president and chief operating officer of General DataComm, a supplier of datacommunications equipment, based in Connecticut. He managed the company's transition from a small entrepreneurial company to a large global technology enterprise. During his tenure at General DataComm, revenues grew from $87 million to over $200 million. Prior to 1982 Dr. Taylor was at Northern Telecom for 13 years in a succession of management positions.
 Dr. Taylor graduated from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland with a degree in physics and holds a Ph.D. in solid state physics from the University of Alberta, Canada.
