BOSTON TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES SECOND QUARTER RESULTS; COMPANY REPORTS RECORD REVENUES FOR QUARTER

 WAKEFIELD, Mass., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSTN), today reported net income of $1,259,000 on revenues of $17,134,000 for the second quarter of fiscal year 1994 ended July 31, 1993, compared with net income of $691,000 on revenues of $11,140,000 for the same period in fiscal year 1993. Revenues for the second quarter of fiscal 1994 represent an increase of $5,994,000, or 54 percent, over the second quarter of fiscal 1993, with an increase of $568,000, or 82 percent, in net income over the same period last year. This quarter marks the company's seventh consecutive quarter of growth in revenues.
 Net income per share for the second quarter of fiscal year 1994 was 5 cents compared to 3 cents for the same period in fiscal year 1993. Income per share was based on 25,203,000 common and common equivalent shares outstanding at the end of the second quarter of the current fiscal year vs. 22,807,000 shares outstanding in the second quarter of last year.
 For the six month period ended July 31, 1993, the company reported revenues of $34,058,000, a 69 percent increase over $20,182,000 reported for the same period one year ago. Net income for the first six months of the current fiscal year was $2,397,000, or 10 cents per share, vs. $842,000, or 4 cents per share, for the first six months of fiscal 1993.

"We attribute much of our success this quarter to the continued strength of our relationships with the Regional Bell Operating Companies and their successes in deploying enhanced services in their regions. In addition, our international sales have continued to increase and the opportunities we see in the international market for our products and services continue to expand."
 Taylor continued, "We implemented a number of strategies during this past quarter to help us continue our revenue and income growth over the coming months. One important step was the establishment of our software development partnership with Logica, which we believe will help us to manage our research and development costs while still meeting the demands of an extremely aggressive market. In addition, we were able to increase significantly our foreign exchange line with Philadelphia National Bank this past quarter, which will enhance our ability to continue to penetrate new markets, both in the United States and internationally."
