BOSTON GLOBE, HILL, HOLLIDAY AGREE TO PART WAYS; MUTUAL DECISION ENDS 15-YEAR RELATIONSHIP

BOSTON, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boston Globe and Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos jointly announced today that the two companies will sever their longterm relationship of advertising agency and client, effective Nov. 1.
The Globe will thus seek a new ad agency to manage its $4 million annual account, which includes television, radio, print, outdoor and direct mail advertising.
The decision, announced by Globe President Benjamin B. Taylor and Hill, Holliday CEO Jack Connors, marks the end of a 15-year relationship. The agency will continue working for the Globe for 90 days beyond Nov. 1 in completing existing projects.
Benjamin B. Taylor, Globe president, said "We've had a wonderful relationship with Hill, Holliday for 15 years. We've worked longer with them than any other agency. The agency has been responsive and creative, and has developed and worked on some landmark campaigns, such as "The Globe's Here," and "Have You Seen the Globe Today?"
"It has been largely through the agency's effort that the Globe has maintained and improved its circulation and lineage in the marketplace.
"But there comes a time when you believe you need new leadership, new thinking and fresh approaches. We think that time has come for the Globe. But we leave Hill, Holliday on the best of terms, with gratitude for the job they've done, and wish them the very best."
For the agency's part, Connors said "The Globe has been a terrific client, and we are proud of the contributions we have been able to make to their business.
"We will continue to provide marketing support through the transition period, and we wish all our friends at the Globe continued success."
The Globe expects to have a decision on a new agency by mid-December. Pile and Company, a Boston-based management consulting firm, will manage the review for the Globe.
