BOSTON CHICKEN COOKS UP GROWTH IN PITTSBURGH

PITTSBURGH, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston Chicken, the family-style restaurant whose juicy, rotisserie-roasted birds have quickly captured the hearts and stomachs of Pittsburgh, today opened its fourth location in the North Hills on McKnight Road and continues to aggressively expand in western Pennsylvania.
As the national leader in the fresh, prepared-meals-to-go category, Boston Chicken is located in Upper St. Clair, Squirrel Hill, Monroeville and now in Ross Township. "Our unique `prepared food' concept has really filled the void for the Pittsburgh family, by combining value pricing with the service and quality of a restaurant, the large selection of a cafeteria and the convenience of fast food," says Pat McDonnell, president of P&L Food Service, Inc., the local franchisee. "One comment we hear frequently from our customers is `This isn't what we expected you to be like!'"
Boston Chicken is committed to the idea that no short cuts be taken in preparing their entrees and side dishes. "Our food is prepared from scratch on the premises every day, and it is ready for customers when they walk in the door or place advance orders via phone," says McDonnell.
He says the Boston Chicken menu consists of marinated, rotisserie-roasted chicken, sandwiches, homemade chicken pot pies and old-fashioned chicken soup. Individual entrees are priced from $3.99. Value-priced family meal combinations are also available for two to 10 people. "Here is the real value," says McDonnell. "We offer a whole bird, your choice of two hot or cold side items and corn bread for $12.99. Three people can dine out for under $5 each."
Freshly prepared side dishes include garlic and dill new potatoes, butternut squash, creamed spinach, homemade mashed potatoes, stuffing, zucchini marinara, herbed corn, fresh deli salads like tortellini, cranberry walnut relish, chunky chicken, along with a rotation of seasonal favorites like chicken and pasta, and fruit salad.
"The finishing touch is the freshly baked corn bread that comes with each meal," says McDonnell. "All dishes are available to meet patron's family, party and business meeting needs, and are conveniently packaged and ready to go," he adds.
P&L Food Service, Inc., also owns and operates three eastern Ohio Boston Chicken locations and plans to expand to a total of eight in Pittsburgh by year's end.
