1888: Irving Berlin. Composer, whose songs include White Christmas. 1904: Salvador Dali. Surrealist painter with a great moustache and a passion for melting clocks.

1911: Phil Silvers. American comedian, famous in his role as Sgt Bilko he also starred in Carry On up the Khyber. 1941: Eric Burdon. Singer/songwriter with The Animals.

1943: Les Chadwick. Musician with Gerry and the Pacemakers, whose hits include You'll Never Walk Alone.

1950: Jeremy Paxton. British journalist known for his political interviews, and the host of University Challenge. He has also written several books including The Political Animal.

1954: John Gregory. Football manager, formerly of Derby County and Aston Villa.

1955: JJ Jeczalik. Keyboard player and programmer with The Art Of Noise. 1953: Natasha Richardson. British actress and sister of Joely.

1964: John Parrott. Snooker player and former team captain on A Question of Sport.
